Welcome to Myanmar
Myanmar
( former name Burma ) with more than 2,000 years
of Buddhist civilization is enriched with a vibrant
cultural tradition, great natural beauty and amazingly
eventful histories.
The country is inhabited by people with endearing
charm and hospitality. The word for greeting courteously
is "Mingalabar", which means “May you be auspicious”.
The country is now fast opening up to the world
and a free market economy has been introduced since
early 1990s. It now reveals the unparalleled richness
of cultural heritages preserved with remarkable
tenacity. Since a large extent of the country is
still covered under forest, Myanmar abounds in varieties
of fossil, flora and fauna, enormous resources for
economy, history and culture.
The country is the second largest in terms of territory
among the ASEAN nations. It shares border with India,
China, Thailand, Bangladesh and Laos. Although Myanmar
is neighboured with two of the world's ancient civilization,
India and China, it still retains and maintains
its own characteristic tradition and culture.
Myanmar offers every attraction such as trekking
at the snow-clad mountains in the north, inspiring
the spectacular temples gleaming on the plains of
the historic Bagan in the central region; enjoying
the warm sun at the natural beaches.
On the banks of the great Ayeyarwady River stand
the ancient capitals of Myanmar Kingdom. The colossal
Pagodas and Temples show the creativity and piety
of the ancient Myanmar people.
Myanmar is home to about 135 different ethnic groups,
each speaking their own dialects. You will witness
our races in their colourful attires and interesting
festivities.
Myanmar opens her doors and is putting out the welcome
mat to its visitors.
So please come and visit us soon and see the wonders
of Myanmar for yourselves.
