Traveller's Guide
1. PASSPORT AND VISA
A valid Passport with Entry Visa is required of all
tourist and businessman, applicable at Myanmar Embassies
and Consulate General Offices abroad. Tourist Visa and
Business Visa are valid for 28 days, extendible to 14
days for tourists and 3 months for business. You have to
enter Myanmar before the expiration of the visa. Visa on
arrival can also be arranged on special basis to package
group tours applicable in advance to the Ministry of
Hotels and Tourism. Overland entry is permitted for Thai
tourists with border pass and for third party tourists
with visa at Tachileik, Three Pagoda Pass, Myawaddy and
Kawthaung check points along Myanmar-Thai Border and
similarly for Chinese tourists with border pass and for
third party tourists with visa at Lwe-je, Nam Kham,
Muse, Chin Shwe Haw, Kyukoke, Kwanlong, and Mongla along
Myanmar-China Border. Those arrivals without visa will
be deported if required. Children over 7 years mentioned
in the passport of a parent must hold a separate visa. A
transit visa is valid for 24 hours only.
There are two types of Visa called E.V.T (FIT) and
E.V.T (Package) Visa. We would like to advise you to
apply EVT (Package) Visa.
E.V.T. (PACKAGE)
You can apply the visa at Myanmar Embassy or
Consulate in prior arrangements with package tour
recommendation letter from us. We will send you and our
Myanmar Embassy or Consulate in abroad to our Package
Tour Confirmation Letter after getting guests names and
passport details. You can apply PACKAGE TOUR VISA at the
nearest Embassy or Consulate with this letter, passport,
3 Photos and have to pay USD.20 for Myanmar Visa fee.
E.V.T (F.I.T)
This Visa can be obtained at every Myanmar Embassy or
Consulate by submitting passport and 3 photos. Myanmar
Visa fee is USD20. But we would like to strongly
recommend that our clients to get the E.V.T Package Visa
by getting the recommendation letter from us.
2. VISA ON ARRIVAL
For the countries where there is not Myanmar
Embassies or Consulate, we will arrange visa on arrival
and we need the information of the clients as follows,
1. Clients full name and Passport numbers.
2. Date of issue and Place of issue.
3. Date of expire.
4. Father’s name.
5. Date of birth and place of birth.
6. Occupation.
7. Home address.
8. Nationality.
9. 3 recent passport size photographs.
10. Countries for passport valid.
11. Arrival and Departure flight no. to Myanmar.
We need all above mentioned of your information at
least 18 working days before your arrival and we have to
apply to get permission from Myanmar Immigration
Department.
After Visa is approved, we have to inform respective
International Airline and then they will allow your
boarding without Visa in your passport!
Visa fees: 20 USD per person + service charge
Service charge,

3. ENTRY PROCEDURE (YANGON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT)
- To show your passport, entry-visa,
disembarkation card and other relevant documents to
the officers at the immigration counter (foreigners
section)
- To let customs officers examine your passport
and declaration forms at the customs counter.
- To pick up your luggage taken in by the conveyor
belt.
- To declare, electrical goods/ camera/ jewellery
and foreign currencies, if any, at the customs
counter.
- To settle customs duties, if required, through
the red channel.
- To let customs preventive officers inspect your
luggage.

To
let immigration officers re-examine your passport.
4. DEPARTURE PROCEDURE (YANGON INTERNATIONAL
AIRPORT)
- To get your ticket confirmed at the airline
concerned;
- To pay the airport tax (10 US$ in cash) at the
airport; (To show your passport and airport tax
receipt at the counter of the airline concerned to
receive your boarding-pass),
- To let the immigration officers examine your
passport and embarkation card;
- To submit your passport and declaration form at
the customs counter;
- To let the customs preventive officers inspect
your luggage;

To
go through a body-search;
5. CUSTOMS
Foreign currency above US $2000, jewelleries,
electrical equipments and video cameras must be declared
at the airport. Export of antiques and archaeologically
valuable items are prohibited.
6. CURRENCY
Myanmar currency is the Kyat made up of 100 Pyas.
Currency notes come in the following denominations: K
1000, K 500, K 200,
K100, K 90, K 50, K 45, K 20, K 15, K 10, K 5, K 1 and
Pya 50. Visitors are not allowed to bring in or take out
Kyats.
7.
CREDIT CARDS & TRAVELLER CHEQUES
Present Situation all the credit cards are not
possible to use around the country since 01 Sept, 03.
The travellers are recommended to carry cash for their
own expense.
8. DUTY FREE ALLOWANCE
Two bottles of liquor, Two cartons of cigarettes, 100
cigars and Half a litre of perfume or eau de cologne.
9. FOREIGN EXCHANGE CERTIFICATE (FEC)
FECs, equivalent to US Dollars, are issued in $20,
$10, $5 and $1 denominations. FECs can be purchased with
US Dollars or Pounds Sterling in cash.

11. RELIGION
The majority of the people of Myanmar are Buddhist
although Christianity, Islam and Hinduism are also
practiced among the minority.
12. BUSINESS HOURS
Government offices are open at 09:30 am to 04:30 pm
and Banks are open at 10:00 am to 02:00 pm, through
Monday to Friday.

CLIMATE AND SEASONS
Myanmar has three seasons.
- Cool Season - October through February
- With average temperatures 20°-24° C
- Hot Season - March through May
- With average temperatures 30°-35° C
- Wet Season - June through September
- The ideal time to visit Myanmar is during the cool
season.
However, even during the wet season, Yangon
normally receives morning and afternoon showers while
rainfall in Bagan and Mandalay is very low.
14. CLOTHING
Shorts, short skirts or revealing clothing are not
appropriate especially when visiting temples or any
religious sites. Myanmar is a conservative Buddhist
culture and improper dress can be offensive. Please
dress with respect for the local culture.
Lightweight, easy to care clothes of cotton and cool
fabrics are ideal all year round. A sweater or jacket
may be needed in the cool season when visiting up
country. Wear sensible walking shoes which can be easily
removed when required.
15.
VOLTAGE
The voltage in Myanmar is 220-230 Volts AC. Most of
the international hotels have their own generators.
Other places may experience power cuts and voltage
fluctuation which can damage equipment like computers.
Please travel with the required protection for your
electrical items.
16. WHAT TO BRING
Sun hat, Sun glasses, Sun protection for your Face
and Body, Prescription medicines, Insect repellent and
an umbrella (rain or shine), a small flash light and
extra passport photos.
17. LANGUAGE
The
majority of the people speak Myanmar (Burmese) and
English is widely understood.
18. INSURANCE
We recommend all clients to obtain the necessary
personal baggage, medical and accident insurance before
arrival. All vehicles used by YANGON TOUR are insured in
accordance with local regulations.
19. HEALTH
No inoculations or vaccinations are required unless
coming from or passing through an infected area.
20. PETS
Passengers
are allowed to bring their personal pets on production
of health certificates.

22. MOBILE PHONES
Hand Phones or Mobile Telephones from other countries
currently do not operate in Myanmar. Customs will hold
your telephone upon arrival and you can collect on your
Departure.
23. Car Rental
Car description: Air-conditioned cars with
experienced drivers are available for your utmost
satisfaction.
